Teaching Philosophy

At Velvet Cello, our main goal is to make sure that our students advance in their cello playing through a learning process that is very thorough and enjoyable.

It is of upmost importance to us that our students are happy with their cello playing and that they enjoy playing the cello. Though playing cello is very challenging and requires much practice, we make sure our students find it fun and rewarding.

We aim to help each student advance in the most efficient and effective way possible. Each student learns best in a different way, whether it is in an intellectual style, a creative/imaginative style, or through visual demonstration, aural demonstration, repetition, etc. At Velvet Cello, we work to find the way that works best for each student so that they can learn quickly and successfully.

At Velvet Cello, we teach our students to teach themselves. We encourage our students to take the teaching process that we use in the lessons, and use it at home in their practice room. We discuss effective practice methods with each student and guide them in their studies until they don’t need us any more! When a student is able to learn a concept or tricky passage on their own, they have a very deep and rewarding learning experience.

Playing music can be so amazing and fulfilling. At Velvet Cello we strive to make sure that every student experiences that joy through playing their cello.
